Empower School of Health and Africa CDC Host Influential Side Event at World Health Assembly on Africa's Health Workforce Development

Empower School of Health and the Africa Centre for Diseases and Control (Africa CDC) jointly organised a side event at the World Health Assembly in Geneva on the 29th of May 2024.

The breakfast side event took place at the UNITAR offices on a topic of great importance for Africa’s New Public Health Order: Developing Africa’s Workforce for Health Products Manufacturing: Challenges and Potential Solutions. The event included introductory remarks and a panel discussion with distinguished speakers, including H.E. Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director General Africa CDC, H.E. Michel Sidibé, AU Special Envoy for the African Medicines Agency, and Prof. Paul Lalvani, Founder and CEO of the Empower School of Health.

We are excited to share that Empower School of Health and BLOOM Public Health have officially partnered to enhance public and private health systems around the world! Under the leadership of Prof. Paul Lalvani and Prof. Chimezie Anyakora, this collaboration will focus on key areas such as manufacturing, supply chain, pharmaceutical quality, and regulatory systems. Together, we will develop innovative digital learning platforms and provide essential technical assistance.

Empower School of Health and Sante En Entreprise to Partner in Launching Training Programs for African Health Managers at WHA in Geneva

During the World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, Sante En Entreprise - SEE and Empower School of Health will officially sign a partnership agreement to launch training programs for managers and health professionals across Africa.

Empower School of Health to implement STEP 2.0 Togo for Chemonics International Inc

In May, Chemonics International Inc. selected Empower as the implementing partner by under the Global Health Supply Chain-Technical Assistance, Francophone Task Order GHSC-TA Francophone TO (funded by USAID) to undertake the STEP 2.0 programme for Togo. The project activities have already begun, and the team is acting in high gear for preparation of the one-week onsite training for the Togo participants in July 2024. The STEP 2.0 approach, developed in collaboration with People that Deliver and the GAVI Vaccine Alliance, will be a transformation program for supply chain managers focused on strengthening their capabilities in management, collaboration, and leadership. The training shall be delivered in French. Empower and Chemonics team will be working in close collaboration with the Ministry of the Direction de la Pharmacie, du Médicament, et des Laboratoires (DPML) of the Ministry of Health (MoH) of Togo for the delivery of the programme.

Projects Update

Empower School of Health Conducts 1-Day Workshop to Enhance AIIMS New Delhi's Online Education Capabilities

  • Empower School of Health facilitated a 1-day refresher training workshop for strengthening the capacity of the content development team of AIIMS New Delhi to design, develop and deliver online education to medical students in India (and globally) on 28th May 2024.
  • The training led by Harish Upadhyay (Manager - Visual Design), facilitated by Ankit Kaushik and Amal S focused on the sustainable development of online courses by strengthening the developmental processes. Empower, with the support of AIIMS New Delhi, is planning refresher training for other NMCN colleges on content development, recording, and formatting of lecture videos.

Empower School of Health Partners with 2nd Africa Women's Health Symposium in Accra, Ghana

Empower School of Health was a strategic partner for the 2nd Africa Women's Health Symposium in Accra on May 23, 2024, themed 'A new dawn of partnerships for women's health' on the 23rd of May 2024 at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra, Ghana organised by The Africa Health Business (AHB). The Executive Director and Founder, Professor Paul Lalvani presented a video message at the opening session.

The guests and speakers list included The Minister for Health, Ghana; the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ghana; the Minister for Health, Namibia; the Director General of the World Health Organization, the Ghana High Commissioner to Kenya amongst other dignitaries. The private sector was represented by pharmaceutical and medical equipment manufacturers, health non-governmental organizations, community-based organizations and healthcare providers serving women’s health needs across Ghana and Africa.

Empower School of Health launched an annual scholarship

The Girindre Beeharry Scholarship Fund whose first recipient was Philomina Ndede Paha. The award was received on behalf of Philomina by Yvonne Yirenkyiwaa Esseku, Rector, Ghana College of Pharmacists from Dr. Afisah Zakariah, Chief Director at the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, and Lynda Decker Dr. The scholarship will fully cover Philomina's tuition for the Post Graduate Diploma in Global Health Procurement and Supply Chain Management program with Empower School of Health, in association with United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

Empower School of Health participation in the USAID’s annual TB partners Meet from 9 to 10th April 2024

USAID in partnership with the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) organised its annual national level TB partners’ meeting in April. The two-day event focused conducted to review the progress of the USAID TB projects; share learning from various interventions, innovative approaches, and models; to assess how well aligned these projects are with the NTEP, Government of India. In addition, the meeting focused to discuss strategy and way forward for adapting and synergizing efforts on TB elimination. Empower School of Health was invited to be part of this event to speak about the significance of introducing innovative capacity building approach and solutions utilising digital learning technologies (e.g., gamification, digital capacity building centres etc.) ESH was represented the by the senior leadership at this event – Prof. Paul Lalvani, Founder & Executive Director; Ms. Kavitha Nair, Deputy Director-Capacity Building Lead and Dr. Rohan Thakur, Associate Director-Projects & Partnerships. Prof. Lalvani presented the key interventions undertaken by Empower in TB and the potential role it can play in the fight against TB through innovative training and capacity building strategies.
