Empowering Africa’s Healthcare Future: Insights, Innovation & Impact at the 8th Africa Business Forum 

Empower School of Health proudly participated in the Eighth Africa Business Forum, held on the sidelines of the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 17 February 2025. Our Founder & Executive Director, Prof. Paul Lalvani, took the stage as a distinguished speaker, sharing groundbreaking insights on: Strengthening health systems, Advancing digital learning in healthcare and Building sustainable supply chains for equitable healthcare access. With decades of expertise in global health, capacity building, and digital transformation, Prof. Lalvani’s session was truly a game-changer for Africa’s healthcare landscape! 

A special highlight of the event was H.E. President Taye Atsekselassie, President of Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, visiting our booth, where he explored Empower’s vision for local pharmaceutical manufacturing—a crucial step towards making Africa a pharmaceutical powerhouse! 

Together, we are activating regional value chains and transforming Africa’s potential into prosperity! 

Empowering Nigeria’s Healthcare Workforce!  

Prof. Paul Lalvani, Founder and Director of Empower School of Health, had the privilege of meeting Honorable Minister of Health, Nigeria, HE Dr. Muhammad Pate, to discuss ongoing and future initiatives focused on building a competent and certified workforce in pharmaceutical manufacturing, supply chain, and frontline healthcare. 

Empower has on going project in Nigeria - working with the HSCL & PVAC to conduct a feasibility assessment study for establishing a pharmaceutical manufacturing training academy.   

Through simulations, digital learning, and hands-on training, we aim to equip professionals with the skills needed to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare ecosystem. 

Celebrating Africa’s Progress in Vaccine Sovereignty at the 2nd Cairo Vaccine Forum 

Prof. Paul Lalvani, Founder and Executive Director of the Empower School of Health, took the opportunity at the 2nd Cairo Vaccine and Health Products Forum to congratulate Dr. Amadou Alpha Sall for being recognized by Africa CDC as one of the official Regional Collaborating Centers for Networking (RCCN) for training in Africa. This recognition underscores the critical role of Dr. Sall and the Institut Pasteur de Dakar in advancing vaccine sovereignty and capacity-building efforts across the continent. Prof. Lalvani also extended congratulations to Empower School of Health's official partners, Institut Pasteur de Dakar and Africa CDC, for achieving this significant milestone in strengthening Africa's health systems and vaccine independence.

Exciting Partnership: Empower Swiss Collaborates with AGRA for creating engaging multimedia learning content for the Generation Africa Online Academy

We are excited to announce the launch of our new project in partnership with AGRA, aimed at developing self-paced eLearning modules on Agri-business. AGRA, an African-led institution, is dedicated to empowering smallholder farmers by transforming agriculture into a thriving business sector. This partnership marks a significant step towards educating and empowering youth across Africa to engage in agriculture by providing high-quality, interactive educational materials.

New Partnership

Empower Swiss & Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) Unite to Strengthen Ethiopia’s Regulatory Workforce and Healthcare Standards! 

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Empower Swiss and the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority (EFDA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance regulatory capacity and foster collaboration in the pharmaceutical and health sectors.  

Prof. Paul Lalvani met with EFDA Director General Heran Gerba to formalize a strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening Ethiopia’s regulatory systems through efforts focused on human resources, institutional capacity building and leadership training. 

This partnership is a significant step toward ensuring a stronger, more skilled regulatory workforce in Ethiopia! 

Empower Swiss & EPSS Partner to Strengthen Africa’s Healthcare & Pharma Workforce 

Empower Swiss and EPSS have partnered to enhance workforce development and digital learning in Africa’s healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. The collaboration focuses on developing EPSS’s digital learning platform, implementing blended programs to strengthen health systems, and advancing local pharmaceutical manufacturing and supply chains. It also includes sharing best practices, facilitating India-Africa knowledge transfer for vaccine manufacturing, and providing workforce placements in Indian companies. To further drive innovation and capacity building, both organizations will co-host international events, shaping a stronger healthcare ecosystem across Africa. 

Projects updates

Empowering Supply Chain Excellence at Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA)!  

Empower, in collaboration with ZAMMSA, successfully conducted the second Supply Chain Technical Workshop to enhance the skills and expertise of technical staff. The workshop received warm reception and active participation, reinforcing the importance of continuous professional development in supply chain management. Day 1 (20th Feb) was an in-person training with two cohorts (morning & afternoon), attended by participants situated at ZAMMSA headquarters. Day 2 (21 Feb) was a virtual session held for technical staff at the various hubs, A total of 93 ZAMMSA staff were in attendance across both days. 

Facilitated by Mr. Chipopa Kazuma and Ms. Alice Liswaniso, the workshop aimed to strengthen capacity and optimise supply chain processes. A special moment of recognition was dedicated to participants who successfully completed three certificate courses offered by Empower—a remarkable achievement in their professional journey!  

We appreciate the enthusiasm and commitment of all attendees and look forward to continued collaboration in strengthening Zambia’s supply chain systems.
